23rd of October
Hungarians celebrate in October one of their National days. 23rd of October commemorates the revolution of 1956 against the Communist regime. It was also the date in which on 1989 the Republic of Hungary was set replacing the Hungarian People’s republic. The program includes many acts, like family programs and concerts in Kossuth Square, a lighting candles ceremony at the House of Terror Museum and a speech of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in front of the Parliament. If you were planning to visit either the Parliament or the House of Terror Museum, both will be opened free of charge on the 23rd. Remind that shops will be closed that day!
Halloween
Autumn is totally in and October is ending and that leads us to one of the funniest and scariest celebrations of the year (both at the same time!). Get your costume ready because Budapest will be the perfect scenario to celebrate it, no matter the age! Celebrations will start on 29th of October at Heroes’ Square, with the Pumpkin Lantern festival, a pretty new charity event organised by Gyermekétkeztetési Alapítvány in order to collect food for children. The afternoon of the 31st at Vörösmarty Square the Halloween Festival will take place, with contests of different types (customs, make-up, pumpkin lantern, etc.). And for the older ones, many clubs will organise their own Halloween parties so quickly check their websites and choose the best for you!
